On Wednesday we covered a report from Marca which stated Atletico Madrid are searching for a right-back.

It was explained they’ve been in touch with Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal, who would already be tempted by a return to Spanish football, not so long after he was sold by Barcelona.

Aston Villa’s Matty Cash was edged forward as another option, and it was stated he’d probably cost around the same as the Spurs player.

However, Marca made clear that Atletico Madrid’s preference would be the Brazilian at Tottenham, because they’d be handing Diego Simeone a player who already has a good amount of La Liga experience.

Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo disagrees a little, and they say the Aston Villa player is the ‘most viable option’ for Atletico right now, and that’s despite the acknowledgement that signing Cash would an ‘expensive’ transfer.

Matty Cash is the player who Atletico Madrid ‘like the most’, and the club have been following him for a while.

There was interest in the winter market, but Aston Villa were set against a sale.
