Earlier this month, Sport reported Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s fallout with João Cancelo is seen as an advantage for Barcelona to buy the right-back.

Last summer, the Portugal international joined the LaLiga side on loan and his form has convinced them to extend his stay, with Barca president Joan Laporta publicly talking about it on a few occasions.

Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo states Manchester City have no plans to bring the 29-year-old back to the Etihad.

The former Juventus man’s deal with the Cityzens lasts until 2027. Despite this, the report says ‘it’s clear that he’ll not return’ to Manchester City after this season.

This favours Barca and the price they are willing to pay for the fullback. The newspaper adds the Spanish giants are counting on Manchester City’s decision on Cancelo, to retain him.

Cancelo’s agent Jorge Mendes is ‘working to formalise an agreement’ that will benefit both clubs. Mundo add the contacts are taking place and will continue in the coming months.

The Blaugrana don’t rule out another loan deal, with an inclusion of a purchase option.

Barcelona are well aware that Manchester City will receive offers for Cancelo but his desire to continue at the Camp Nou favours them to find an agreement with Guardiola’s side.

In short, it’s clear that Cancelo won’t return to Manchester City and work is ongoing to extend his stay at Barcelona.
