Manchester City have given up on the race for Sporting star Bruno Fernandes, according to claims from Portugal this Wednesday.

We’ve already covered two stories about the midfielder today, both claiming that Tottenham Hotspur have joined the competition for him.

But it’s O Jogo who now rules out Manchester City, saying the Premier League champions have withdrawn themselves from the battle.

It’s claimed that the club ‘had all agreed’ to sign Fernandes for €55m plus some players. But Sporting rejected these players and went back demanding €70m for the transfer.

The same story claims that Inter Milan are keen on signing Fernandes, and they could offer João Mário to convince Sporting to let the player go.

Recent reports from Portugal have been claiming that Manchester City have bid €120m for João Félix, so perhaps the reason why they’re giving up on Fernandes is that they don’t want to spend almost €200m on Portuguese players this summer.

Today’s edition of A Bola claimed City haven’t given up on Bruno Fernandes, so there’s two opposing slants today.
