Over the past month, Leeds United have repeatedly been named as one of the clubs who’d like to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting this summer.

Just last week, we covered Portuguese newspaper Record claiming the Whites have already made contact for the signing, as Victor Orta appreciates the player’s qualities.

It turns out that Leeds’ opportunity to sign Ugarte may show up soon, because according to the very same Record today, the player’s staff are getting ready for his move.

The newspaper writes that Jorge Chijane, the 22-year-old’s representative, will be heading to Europe in May. There, he’ll meet Jorge Mendes to speak of Ugarte’s future.

Sporting wanted to give the player a new contract, raising the release clause from €60m to €80m, but the talks are ‘frozen’, and he should really be sold this summer.

Leeds are named as one of the main contenders in this race, with Record naming the Whites along with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The €60m fee should be the price tag for a summer move, and Sporting are in talks with his former club Fenix to guarantee a bigger chunk of that amount.
