Following many reports from Argentina claiming Brighton & Hove Albion are not letting Facundo Buonanotte take part in the U-20 World Cup, we now get an official confirmation about it.

Local radio station D Sports managed this week to speak to Roberto San Juan, who represents the Seagulls youngster.

The agent confirmed that despite the player’s wish to take part in the tournament, Brighton are not letting him go.

“Brighton rejected the request for Buonanotte to go to the national team,” Roberto San Juan told D Sports Radio.

“He accepts it because it is appropriate to accept it. It’s a decision of the club. His desire is to come [to the national team]”.

In the past few days, the Argentine media has been making big coverage of the national team’s attempt to have all their players available.

Since the tournament is being hosted in the South American country, and just after their World Cup title, it would mean a lot to have a strong squad in the competition.

It’s already been reported that manager Javier Mascherano tried to convince Brighton of letting Buonanotte go, and that wasn’t enough. Now the AFA president Claudio Tapa is also set to make an attempt.

Brighton are focused on finishing their Premier League season well, and since the international tournament starts in May, Buonanotte’s release would take him out of the final league fixtures, which Roberto De Zerbi does not want.
