As Tottenham Hotspur continue to be named as one of the contenders to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting, there’s interesting news coming from Portugal on that front today.

Newspaper Record features a story claiming that the player’s agent is travelling to Europe to speak about a summer move.

There’s no agreement between Ugarte and Sporting for a new contract, as the club wanted to raise his release clause from €60m to €80m. For that reason, his summer exit seems like the best solution.

Record mention Tottenham as one of the English sides who want to take the midfielder to the Premier League next season, along with Leeds United and Newcastle United.

Ugarte’s agent Jorge Chijane is set to meet Jorge Mendes, and there they’ll discuss what will happen in the summer, given the strong interest in the player. They will also talk about the percentage that Sporting get with the sale, since they’re negotiating that with the player’s former club Fenix.

The newspaper makes it clear that Ugarte is only leaving the Lions for the price of his release clause, and that’s something Tottenham should be experienced with, following the money they spent to sign Pedro Porro from the Lisbon side in January.
