Even though Ben Brereton Diaz ended up staying at Blackburn Rovers for at least the first half of the 2022/23 season, it’s hard to ignore the many rumours he’s been surrounded by.

Linked to the likes of Everton, Leeds United and West Ham United, the striker seemed to be close to moving to the Premier League, but nothing actually happened in the end.

So as Brereton Diaz was interviewed by the Chilean media, he spoke about the rumours and explained his choice to continue at Blackburn.

“I’ve been in this team for three or four years, I really love the club. The decision was to stay here and I am happy with it. I’m very excited for this season, we have had a great start, I have scored some goals and we are doing well in the league. We are in the top three,” Brereton Diaz told Pelotada Parada (via RedGol).

“It has been a very positive season for me. Blackburn has been my home for four years, I have very good friends and family here, it’s a very good atmosphere and I’m very happy to be at Blackburn.”

Despite being born in Stoke-on-Trent and being part of England’s youth squads, Brereton Diaz has Chilean heritage and is currently out with the national team for the upcoming friendlies against Morocco and Qatar.

Chile are still hopeful of going to the World Cup due to the ineligibility of an Ecuadorian player during the tournament’s qualifiers. However, for now, they stand out of the competition, as they finished 7th place in the South American table.

Featuring for Blackburn this season, the striker has four goals and one assist in 11 appearances.
