Tottenham Hotspur strengthened their centre-back position by signing Clément Lenglet on loan from Barcelona in the summer.

The north London club showed keen interest in Alessandro Bastoni before completing the deal for Lenglet.

Reports from Italy had stated the 23-year-old ‘put his foot down’ to reject Tottenham’s approach. It was said the Serie A side will work on securing his long-term future, but that has not happened so far. The defender’s current deal runs until 2024.

The Italy international has had a difficult start to the season. According to InterLive.it, he has had ‘bad performances’ and it was no coincidence to see Simone Inzaghi take him off after 30 minutes in the Nerazzurri’s Sunday defeat to Udinese.

Inter must address Bastoni’s renewal as soon as possible. His request could reach around €4-5m net, meaning he could cost around €10m gross per year.

The report doesn’t make it clear whether Inzaghi’s side will meet Bastoni’s demands, but they do state there is ‘uncertainty about the future’ of the player.

Meanwhile, Inter must ‘keep an eye on Tottenham’ because the shadow of Antonio Conte’s side is still on Bastoni. This means Spurs are lurking, to see if there is a chance to take the central defender away from the San Siro.
