With Chelsea defender Thiago Silva often flirting with a return to Fluminense, there’s a reason why the Brazilian side dream of making his signing.

A couple of weeks ago, we covered club president Mario Bittencourt claiming this arrival could only happen in case the player breaks out of his contract with the Blues.

Now following Fluminense’s game on Sunday, it was manager Fernando Diniz who spoke to the local media (via Lance) and was quizzed about signing Silva from Chelsea.

“If he came, it would be everyone’s dream,” said Fernando Diniz.

“It would be a giant gain in everything, quality, experience and presence. But there is absolutely nothing concrete about Thiago Silva.”

Thiago Silva recently signed a contract extension with Chelsea, and is now committed to the club until the summer of 2024.

With the Blues having a disappointing season, there’s clear hope from Fluminense fans that he’d just give up on the Blues and accelerate his return to Brazil.

The scenario, however, is not that simple, and we shall have to wait and see what Silva’s decision will be. Fluminense currently have a strong team, where he could play alongside former Real Madrid fullback Marcelo, and delaying his return for a year could mean he finds a completely different scenario by then.
