Chelsea remain ‘in the background’ for Denzel Dumfries as Inter Milan eye up a sale to raise funds for their own transfer business.

That’s according to Tuttosport, relayed by FC Inter News, who say the Dutchman is the ‘main candidate’ to leave the club in the coming months.

The newspaper explains that Inter’s mission is to find €60m from transfer dealings by 30th June as that is the amount needed to ‘ensure liquidity’ for the club.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio intend to bring that money into the club in any way they can and any offers for players that arrive in January will be ‘carefully evaluated’.

The club had hoped to sell Dumfries but have him loaned back to the club until June, doing a similar deal to the one that Tottenham arranged with Udinese for Denis Udogie.

That discourse was ‘nipped in the bud’, though, and so they are now looking at a permanent sale and the Dutchman ‘remains the main candidate’.

He continued to build on his reputation at the World Cup with the Netherlands and Chelsea have been named among his suitors over the last few weeks.

His displays in Qatar have caused his ‘valuation to soar’ and it seems Inter are looking to take advantage of that to secure themselves a favourable price and get manager Simone Inzaghi a player who is better suited to his style.

Dumfries agent Rafaela Pimenta has also hinted at the player’s desire to move on and find a new team in January and Tuttosport say that ‘Chelsea’s interest remains in the background’.

Whether they make a move remains to be seen but with Inter happy to sell and in some ways looking for a deal, it’s there to be done in the coming weeks.
