River Plate star and Aston Villa target Julian Alvarez continues to have an impressive form for the Buenos Aires side, and that has been only fuelling the rumours about a move to Europe.

His side beat Argentinos Juniors 3-0 last night, with the striker scoring one goal and making two assists, so Calciomercato today features another story about the competition for his signing.

Aston Villa are once again named as one of the contenders, having followed him for ‘several months’. They’re said to be along with Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen and Milan in the race for the 21-year-old.

Especially regarding the Rossoneri, it’s claimed that club officials have been in South America to watch the player closely, and they are now ‘evaluating the possibility’ of making a big in the January market.

That’s of course a sign for Aston Villa and other clubs to rush for the youngster, as waiting for a summer move might be too risky. It’s claimed that the next few weeks ‘should be decisive’.

Calciomercato once again refers to his price mentioning his release clause of €25m.

Meanwhile, part of the Argentine media continues to say the amount is actually of US$25m (£18m), while he’s said to be in talks for a new deal.

Either way, the amount is somewhere between those two figures, which should make him affordable for Aston Villa.
