On Monday, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Arsenal have held intensive talks with Everton over a deal for Amadou Onana.

The north London club’s desire to sign the midfielder is echoed by Het Nieuwsblad, who then explain what they have to do to take him away from Everton.

It’s claimed ‘Arsenal are serious’ and are carrying out negotiations with Everton for the 22-year-old.

Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with interest, but the Gunners are the club pushing to secure the Belgium international’s services.

Mikel Arteta is a fan of the Everton star and believes he could be an ideal reinforcement at the Emirates.

Arsenal seem to be convinced as the report states they are ‘considering making an official offer’ for Onana. Sean Dyche’s side will demand €60m to part ways with the former Lille man, according to the report, which sounds a little low… especially for a January move.

Recent claims in England have stated Arsenal have to be wary of not breaching FFP rules and be creative with signings in January. Het Nieuwsblad relay that and add Arteta’s side, for example, may have to use a loan with a purchase obligation to sign the Belgian.

Onana, for his part, feels ready to take the next step and a move to Arsenal would fit in with what he’s looking for.

The Toffees are currently 17th in the table and would like to retain him, to help them in their battle to avoid relegation.

Arsenal perhaps have other areas of concern this month and this is a transfer which seems likelier for the summer. Given the claims have largely started and been pushed in Belgium, there’s a possibility this is coming from the player’s camp, in an effort to drum up interest either for now or the next window.
