When we woke up on Tuesday morning, we did not expect to see a story sending Cristiano Ronaldo, a Manchester United icon, to Manchester City.

However, it appears that Corriere dello Sport have published just that, with the focus being on Jorge Mendes, as the Portuguese super agent tries to give his star client an escape from Juventus.

Having ‘long negotiated’ with Paris Saint-Germain, who recently signed Lionel Messi, the representative’s ‘latest move is to whet Sheikh Mansour’s pride and imagination by proposing Ronaldo to Manchester City’.

The idea here would be for the Ligue 1 side to have the Argentine and the Premier League champions to have the Juventus star ‘when the World Cup in Qatar is just around the corner’.

Mendes is now ‘beating the City track’ and it’s said ‘Mansour thinks about it’, especially ‘knowing that money is not a problem for a club that has just taken Jack Grealish for €117m’.

There is their pursuit of Harry Kane, but it’s clear that signing Ronaldo ‘would cost City a lot less and would bring a lot more in terms of image’.

They would only need around €28-30m for Juventus to avoid making a loss, but there is the issue of the relationship, seemingly tense from their respective times at Real Madrid and Barcelona, between Cristiano Ronaldo and Pep Guardiola.

If that can be resolved, however, and egos set to one side, it would certainly trump Messi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain as the least expected transfer of the summer.
