Samuel Umtiti has long been one of the players Barcelona have been keen to offload, with his high wages not being backed up by usefulness to the squad.

Sport report Barcelona have now run out of patience with the French defender. According to the Catalan newspaper, the club are threatening to sack Umtiti by unilaterally terminating his contract with them.

Barcelona are ‘very angry’ with Umtiti’s attitude and his reluctance to leave the club despite them wanting him out. Therefore, if he continues to reject proposals he has for an exit, with Sport saying those are coming from French football, Barca will ‘fire him’.

Given the stage of the window, the player has been given a week before Barcelona look to take action. It wouldn’t be the first time this summer they’ve terminated a contract, having already done so with Matheus Fernandes.

Sport report that Barcelona and Umtiti had a pact ahead of the summer. He was to be given a chance to impress during preseason training, and if the Blaugrana still wanted him out then he’d go.

Barcelona kept to their side of the bargain, say Sport, but Umtiti did not.

Should the 27-year-old see his contract terminated then it’s likely legal action will be taken.
