If Sport24 in Greece are to be believed, Sokratis Papastathopoulos is edging closer and closer to signing for Arsenal.

The Borussia Dortmund centre-back has been touted to be on his way to London for the past few weeks, and the Greek outlet report on Monday their national team captain left for the capital on Sunday in order to finalise his move to the Emirates.

That includes passing his medical and then putting pen to paper to his contract after a ‘final agreement’ between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund for the transfer.

Sport24 cite Kicker as a reference for the fee, believed to be around €17m, with the defender set to sign a three-year deal that will keep at Unai Emery’s new club until 2021.

This appears to be one of the more ‘surefire’ deals going around at the moment, with everyone seemingly agreeing to it being close.

Papastathopoulos will add experience to a frail Arsenal backline, who will be without captain Laurent Koscielny for the first few months of the 2018-19 campaign after the Frenchman suffered a serious ankle injury.
