West Ham United midfielder Edson Álvarez is preparing a statement following wild allegations regarding people close to him.
Marca report that the midfielder is preparing a statement following allegations in Mexico that he was linked to an ‘express kidnapping’. In addition, he intends to clarify the situation.
The newspaper explains that while the 28-year-old is suffering on the pitch as he’s out of the picture at West Ham, he’s also dealing with issues off the pitch as well.
Kidnapping allegations
The kidnapping dispute first arose in late 2024. He was accused of involvement in a kidnapping. That allegedly stems from a debt of 3.5 million pesos and a property in Mexico City’s San Rafael neighbourhood.
The newspaper explains that the conflict originated after the father of the West Ham man’s partner, Jonathan Toache, commissioned a documentary about the player’s career. The project cost 3.5 million pesos, and amount that, according to producer Juan José López Ordónez, was never paid.
Ordónez has since claimed that it remains unpaid but the conflict escalated to the point he was kidnapped. During this kidnapping he alleges he was threatened.
Statement prepared
Faced with this situation, the Mexican footballer is preparing a statement to clarify the information published in the magazine.
There’s no indication of when he intends to release this statement or what he intends to say in it. There is every chance he is taking legal advice on the matter. And perhaps consulting with West Ham, before he does so.
It certainly seems like he doesn’t intend to allow the allegations to just be in the public domain without a response. It is, though, a tricky situation to say the least.
And given what’s going on around playing time – he does not appear to be in West Ham’s plans – perhaps an unnecessary distraction at this point in his career.
