Vasco da Gama manager Pedro Emanuel says he respects Tottenham Hotspur‘s Richarlison ‘a lot’.
The Brazil international’s contract expires in 2027, and Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed he has asked to leave.
Everton showed interest, but a move didn’t go through. Trabzonspor also failed to sign the Tottenham player.
Spurs have left him out of their Premier League squad, leaving the forward with limited options to find a new club.
This has seen both Vasco and Atlético Mineiro make approaches to sign him. The duo can still sign him as the window in Brazil remains open until Friday. On Tuesday, new Spurs signing Sávio said his compatriot wants to join Vasco soon.
Manager silent about interest in Tottenham man
The Brazilian club settled for a goalless draw against Sante Fe in the Copa Sudamericana on Tuesday.
In the post-match press conference, Pedro Emanuel was asked about the Richarlison links and ESPN have relayed his comments.
“I think my silence says it all,” he said.
“I work with the players who are here; he is a player I respect greatly, a player everyone knows, but they aren’t here and I don’t feel I have the right to comment on something that isn’t part of our day-to-day lives, of my reality. I’m sorry I can’t answer, but that’s all I can say at the moment.”
Vasco working behind the scenes
Tottenham Hotspur don’t have sufficient options to get rid of the player, who is not part of Roberto De Zerbi plans. Vasco da Gama are looking to take advantage of this and his contract situation to secure his services.
That’s according to O Globo, who states Vasco ‘consider it viable’ to buy the player.
Their president, Pedrinho, is leading the talks with Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian club have signalled to Spurs about their offer and will wait until Thursday for their response to finalise the operation.
Vasco will discuss personal terms with the South American if the north London club were to accept their proposal.
There’s no mention of the fee proposed, and O Globo states: ‘it’s considered feasible and reasonable. Vasco are counting on the English club’s lack of options to negotiate for the striker in the final stages of the transfer window.’
