Tottenham Hotspur could inadvertently help Everton to sign Mauro Icardi by sending Richarlison to Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro.
TyC Sport report that the Brazilian club have become the latest to show interest in the Argentine striker.
Free agent with options
Mauro Icardi is currently a free agent after leaving Galatasaray and has numerous offers on the table. Reports in Argentina have indicated that Everton are one of those who’ve made an offer.
Atlético Mineiro are one of those in the picture as well according to TyC, but they view him as an alternative option to Richarlison. He’s the man at the top of their list at this moment in time.
He needs to leave Tottenham, who have left him out of their Premier League squad following his failure to leave on deadline day. They had a deal agreed with Everton for him to return there but that ultimately didn’t happen.
Now the player and his entourage believes that he is being punished by Tottenham, who blocked a move to Türkiye before their deadline.
Atlético Mineiro are now in the race but behind Vasco de Gama, whose president Pedrinho has ‘personally intervened’ in the matter. Richarlison has reportedly also expressed a preference for them.
If Atlético Mineiro were to get a deal done instead, that would leave Everton free to pursue Mauro Icardi without any competition.
Concrete Everton interest
TyC say that their interest in the Argentine is ‘more concrete’ at this moment in time. In fact, Everton have received a formal proposal from the player and are now weighing up their next move according to the outlet.
Perhaps Everton are waiting to see what happens with Richarlison before making their own moves. Or perhaps they are weighing up whether they want the striker given the drama that he brings with him.
