Tottenham Hotspur have been pursuing Liverpool‘s Cody Gakpo throughout the summer window.
The Premier League side have seen Liverpool reject their initial bid of £60m [€69.9m].
Three days ago, Sport Witness covered a report from the Dutch press than Tottenham are preparing a new bid. Manchester City have also joined them in the race for the Liverpool forward.
Tottenham not giving up
SoccerNews journalist Mounir Boualin first reported Spurs’ interest in the 27-year-old in June.
He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the latest about Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
Earlier today, Liverpool reached a full verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Bradley Barcola for around €135-140m.
His imminent arrival will see Cody Gakpo get a tough competitor for the place in Andoni Iraola’s starting lineup. Both prefer to operate on the left wing, and the Netherlands international can also play up front.
Tottenham haven’t given up on the Liverpool player and will soon launch a new attempt.
Tottenham new offer soon
Mounir Boualin says Liverpool ‘does not necessarily need or want’ to sell Cody Gako late in this window.
He states: ‘… the club is willing to act more quickly in the event of the potential arrival of another winger.’
This means Liverpool won’t oppose the Dutchman’s sale if Bradley Barcola and another forward were to arrive. He is ‘at crossroads’ and has doubts about his immediate future.
Tottenham Hotspur have signed Savinho and are edging closer towards announcing Omar Marmoush’s arrival. They are still ready to open their door for the Liverpool attack.
The journalist states Spurs want to submit the second bid ‘soon’, and Gakpo could be the ‘key player’ under Roberto De Zerbo.
For now, the north London club haven’t made an improved offer, and he hasn’t agreed to personal terms.
Manchester City remain in the background and consider him as a squad player. This may not please the Dutch forward.
Both Liverpool and Gakpo have to decide quickly if the English capital club table a bid over £60m.
