Celtic target Fares Ghedjemis

Celtic tried to sign Frosinone’s Fares Ghedjemis in January and the player is now attracting interest from Wolves and Norwich City.

The Italian side find themselves third in Serie B. They are only three points behind table-toppers Venezia and are very much in the hunt for a return to the top-flight.

Ghedjemis has been key to this, scoring 14 times and assisting three times on the way. Last week, he scored a vital brace against Modena, helping Frosinone pick up a 2-1 win.

During the January transfer window, SportWitness covered Celtic’s bid to sign the winger. The player rejected the approach as he was keen on finishing the season with Frosinone and helping them earn promotion.

It was only a matter of time before the 23-year-old began attracting more attention. Norwich City and Wolves have come forward for him.

Ghedjemis has mind made up

Gazzetta dello Sport today note that Celtic’s offer in January was ‘very serious’.

The €6m put forward was big money for Frosinone, who were possibly inclined to accept it. But the player convinced the Serie B side into rejecting this and he prefers to leave in the summer.

The World Cup in the summer can now end up raising his value. It currently stands at €8m and it can grow much further.

In the meantime, Norwich City have made an offer, putting €9m on Frosinone’s table. Wolves have done the same, but it appears as if Ghedjemis has his mind made up.

He does not want to play in the Championship, seemingly sure about playing in Serie A. The Algeria international believes he will thrive in a 4-3-3 shape, which isn’t used too much in the Italian top-flight.

That is why he sees the Premier League as the best possible destination. German clubs are also keen on him but haven’t made any formal offers yet.

Our take: Frosinone would love a spectacular World Cup

Norwich City and Wolves have little hope of signing the winger. They should face the same fate as Celtic, who can now be out-priced by the summer.

Frosinone won’t mind any of that. They paid less than €1m to sign him in 2024 and anything they earn will now go down as a capital gain.

They would gladly wait for promotion and then the World Cup, hoping Ghedjemis makes a mark in the next few months. This will drive up their valuation and capital gain, with Frosinone’s current record sale standing at around €12m.

There is now every chance that Ghedjemis’ sale ends up beating that figure.
