Hull City’s Amir Hadžiahmetović will miss the rest of the season due to an injury.
Towards the end of last summer, the Bosnia and Herzegovina joined Hull City on season-long loan deal from Beşiktaş.
Sergej Jakirović has regularly utilised the defensive midfielder this season as he played 2,311 minutes from 39 matches.
His Championship stats this season are as follows:
- Appearances: 37
- Starts: 26
- Total minutes: 2,153
- Minutes per game: 58
- Interceptions per game: 0.5
- Tackles per game: 1.4
- Possession won (final third): 0.2
- Ball recovered per game: 3.4
- Clearances per game: 1.3
- Blocked shots per game: 0.3
- Duels won per game: 3.0
The 29-year-old failed to make it to Jakirović’s Championship squad for the first time against Leicester City on Tuesday. That’s because he picked up a knee injury in the Tigers’ 1-1 draw against Birmingham City last weekend.
Hull City player to miss World Cup
Bosnia and Herzegovina have secured a berth in the World Cup after overcoming Italy in the qualifiers in March.
However, manager Sergej Barbarez won’t be able to count on Amir Hadžiahmetović for the tournament in the United States and Mexico.
On Wednesday, the national team confirmed the serious blow to the Hull City man. He will now go under the knife and will be out of action for long.
A statement on the Bosnian’s FA’s official website read, ‘Bosnia and Herzegovina national team player Amir Hadžiahmetović will not be able to play in the upcoming World Cup due to a meniscus injury, which will require surgery and a longer recovery period.’
‘Head coach Sergej Barbarez and the coaching staff were counting on Hadžiahmetović in the upcoming challenges, and his absence represents a significant handicap for our team.’
This also means Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović won’t be able to count on the Beşiktaş owned player until the end of the season.
Injury could impact future
Hull City haven’t secured a purchase option or obligation to make Amir Hadžiahmetović’s loan stay permanent.
Following his latest setback, it’s unclear whether the English club will make an attempt to buy him in the summer. As things stand, he will return to Beşiktaş after this season.
His contract with the Black Eagles is until 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €4.2m.
