Newcastle United and Aston Villa are in the picture to sign Inter Milan’s Carlos Augusto in the summer, according to L’Interista.

The Serie A side initially signed the Brazilian on loan from AC Monza initially in August 2023 and made his stay permanent a year later.

His preferred position is on the left side of defence. At the San Siro, Augusto operated mainly as a left wing-back and at times as a centre-back. His performances would have seen Newcastle United and Aston Villa take notice.

The Magpies’ interest in the 27-year-old isn’t new. Prior to his move to Inter, Eddie Howe’s side had reportedly looked at him. Newcastle United are back in the picture and Unai Emery’s side have now joined them.

According to the report, the ‘Premier League is calling him’, where Newcastle United and Aston Villa are the ‘most interested’ clubs. The two English clubs haven’t made contact with any parties so far.

The South American has a contract until 2028 and the Nerazzurri value him at €30m. The outlet insists the latter have no intention to part ways with the defender and consider him ‘unsellable’.

Inter boss Cristian Chivu ‘worships him’, probably because of Augusto’s versatility and his impressive performances.

Amid interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa, the player is unlikely to move to England. He is happy at the San Siro and has no intention of leaving the Italian club.

L’Interista are not ruling out Augusto signing an extension. The possibility of Newcastle United and Aston Villa being used to push for the renewal can’t be ruled out.

Emery has Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen as the two recognised left-backs at Villa Park. It is unlikely that Aston Villa will look for a new signing unless one of them were to leave.

With youngsters Lewis Hall and Alex Murphy as two left-backs at Newcastle, it’s not ruled out for them to look for an experienced player in the same position.
