Newcastle United’s owners, PIF, have made it easier for the Magpies to hire Matthias Jaissle this summer after previously demanding €15m for him.

Sport BILD report that a special connection between Newcastle and Saudi Arabia has made the appointment of the new Magpies’ boss a far simpler process than it might have been.

PIF Facilitate Deal

The newspaper explains that the 38-year-old had been intending to spend another year in Saudi with Al-Ahli as of last week. At that point he was wrapping up a training camp in Portugal and planning for next season.

But Eddie Howe’s sudden departure has changed the plans. Now he’s tasked with leading Newcastle United ‘out of crisis’.

Newcastle immediately focused on the German coach following Howe’s departure. That was partly due to a special connection between Newcastle and Al-Ahli.

PIF own 75% of the latter so have facilitated a deal. That’s after previously scaring away AC Milan this summer with a €15m asking price for Jaissle’s signature. Things were easier for Newcastle in that regard.

Newcastle United DNA

The belief at Saint James’ Park is that Matthias Jaissle fits the bill perfectly. First and foremost, they want to focus on the development of young talent. That’s something he has experience of from RB Salzburg.

His playing philosophy also fits with “Newcastle’s DNA”. The Magpies are aiming to play an aggressive style characterised by high pressing and rapid, vertical attacking football. That’s a perfect fit for a coach who absorbed the “Red Bull style” during his time at Salzburg and then Leipzig.

Work is now underway to finalise the deal. Jaissle had been ready to go this week even travelled to La Manga in Spain to link up with the squad. However, with the formalities not done yet, he’s had to wait.

In the meantime, his backroom team is already taking shape. Alexander Bade is set to become Newcastle’s new goalkeeping coach. The 55-year-old has already confirmed this on the BILD podcast ‘Stammplatz’.

Now the focus is on getting Jaissle over the line. PIF have already facilitated that, and it’s now a case of crossing t’s and dotting I’s.
