Eintracht Frankfurt are eyeing Newcastle United’s William Osula as a potential repeat of their success with Hugo Ekitiké.

That’s according to Frankfurter Rundschau. They cover the situation around Osula today. Frankfurt are once again making concrete efforts to sign him from Newcastle.

They were close to a deal in the summer transfer window. Frustratingly for them, they saw a deal cancelled at the last minute by Newcastle’s Saudi owners following Alexander Isak’s dramatic move to Liverpool. The Magpies ownership ruled that no more players would be leaving St James Park.

The German side have not given up their pursuit, though. They remain keen on Osula. Indeed, a report today stated that Osula already had a verbal agreement in place with Eintracht. It’s been made clear for a while that he’s keen on the move to the Bundesliga.

The deal taking shape is currently a loan, for €3m, with an option to buy for €20m. FR report this would make Osula one of the most expensive signings in Frankfurt’s history.

They like the strategy of signing him on loan as it’s been successful for them before. Hugo Ekitiké is the prime example of that. He cost €3.5m and then €16.5m. He eventually joined Liverpool for an initial €80m this summer. That deal can rise to €95m with add-ons.

They are clearly hoping for the same with Osula. The question remains whether Newcastle will do business, after cancelling late in the summer.
