Oumar Solet has been one of Udinese’s most reliable players over the past year and is now attracting Newcastle United’s attention.
The centre-back joined the Italian side on a free transfer in January 2025. This was right after there was controversy about his exit from Salzburg in the summer of 2024, but the effort has proved worthwhile for Udinese.
Solet has played over 50 times in all competitions for them, with 32 of those games coming this season.
Last year, it was West Ham who were in contact for his signature. This was covered significantly by Sport Witness, as the Italian press were hyping up the centre-back quite a bit.
Now, it is Newcastle United who are in the hunt for the defender.
Summer exit likely
Tuttomercatoweb take a closer look at the 26-year-old, who has also emerged as a major target for Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri are aiming to completely reform their backline, with Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi likely to leave. They have been monitoring Solet since he arrived in Italy and can now make a summer move.
Newcastle United will provide competition, though. The Magpies have been keeping a close eye on the Frenchman in ‘recent weeks’ and have been handed hope about a deal.
This is because Solet is very likely to leave Udinese in the summer. Since the Friulian side signed him for free, anything they earn will go down as a capital gain. This makes them keen on a sale.
Solet’s quality never in doubt
The ex-Salzburg player has acquired a reputation of being very remarkable on the ball. He doesn’t just thrive in a back four but has also impressed in a back three.
This has made him a hot property, with the player often appearing to be too good for Udinese. He has previously played in European competitions too, which shows that he will only be an asset for Newcastle United.
Solet has been involved in off-pitch controversy for a year, though. This is likely to impact any transfer away from Udinese. That is also probably why Inter will have doubts over a move and that should alarm Eddie Howe’s side as well.
