Sebastien Kehl is now available for Tottenham after reaching a settlement agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
BILD report that the sporting director has officially reached a settlement agreement with Borussia Dortmund to bring his time with them to a close.
Kehl now a free agent
According to the newspaper’s information, Sebastien Kehl has reached an agreement with Dortmund to terminate his contract officially. That will bring an end to a 24-year association to the German club.
Dortmund will pay Kehl a severance package totalling approximately €1.5m. He will officially bid farewell to the club at the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt this week.
The German club parted ways with the sporting director in March. The club stated that ‘irreconcilable’ differences with Lars Ricken and Carsten Cramer led to his exit. But they had been locked in negotiations since about his official severance from the club.
That had put the director’s future in doubt. Clubs in Europe are already eyeing him but his ongoing contract with Dortmund would have made things difficult.
Tottenham interest
Tottenham are one of those who are interested. BILD report that while Sebastien Kehl is testing the market, there are three interested parties already. They are Tottenham, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg.
Reports have made Spurs interest in the now, officially, former Dortmund sporting director clear for months.
Sport Witness covered a report in April that state Kehl had held intensive negotiations with Tottenham about taking charge this summer.
A further report then explained that Kehl was weighing up his options during a short holiday before making his next move.
Now the path is clear, he has a decision to make. Does he take up Tottenham’s offer to move to England, or wait to see what other clubs may come calling in the summer?
