Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has played down talk of Evan Ferguson returning to Brighton and Hove Albion in the January transfer window.
Siamo La Roma cover comments from the Roma manager today. He insists they are yet to discuss Ferguson potentially returning to Brighton next month.
The striker joined the Italian side on loan from Brighton in the summer. The hope was that he could get his career back on track after falling down the pecking order with the Seagulls. Instead, it’s been months of frustration for the Irishman.
He’s managed one goal in 13 appearances in all competitions to date, struggling to establish himself under Gasperini.
That’s led to reports that Roma could look to send him bac early in January. they’re planning various manoeuvres in January as they find themselves in a surprise title battle. There have also been reports that Brighton could accept such a deal as they’ve just lost Stefanos Tzimas to a long-term knee injury. Bringing Ferguson back to cover for him could make sense.
But Gasperini is pouring cold water on the idea for the time being. According to him, they’re yet to discuss the possibility.
“I’ve never talked about this,” he said.
“I’ll talk about it with the club in January. There’s a lot of talk these days, then maybe someone scores two or three goals and everything changes. It’s too early now; there are so many games that can change strategies and ideas.”
