Super-agent Jorge Mendes has arrived in Barcelona for talks with Barcelona, with Newcastle United target Guille Fernández on the agenda.

Sport provide footage of Mendes landing in Barcelona today. He is now set to meet with the Catalan giants to discuss various players.

Mendes meeting planned

João Cancelo is at the top of the agenda, but the coming hours will also see discussions on the departures of Marc Casadó and Guille Fernández. The latter has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Sport Witness covered a report from Spain yesterday explaining that Newcastle were closing in on the signing of the 18-year-old midfielder.

That came after a separate report in January explained how Newcastle had made a significant effort for the 18-year-old. Barcelona initially blocked that deal seven months ago, but it appears the situation has now changed.

The Catalan giants are looking to offload a whole host of youngsters in the coming weeks to both help balance the books and ensure future profit. They appear determined to ensure that they maintain future right, or percentages on transfers.

It is a system which has worked successfully for them in the past. It is also one which has earned rivals Real Madrid big sums this summer from several youth talents.

Newcastle United watching

Now Guille Fernández could be the latest La Masia talent to depart with that in mind. Newcastle are, reportedly, closing in on a deal for the youngster.

Mendes’ arrival in Barcelona today, with Sport specifically name-checking the youngster as being one of the names being discussed today.

That would suggest, at least, that the potential move to Newcastle is progressing quite rapidly. Successful talks with Mendes today could certainly help to push things along.

Newcastle will presumably be watching and waiting for developments as they look to recruit their latest youngster this summer.
