Barcelona youngster Guille Fernández is currently close to completing a move to Newcastle United.

Albert Fernández reports that the 18-year-old central midfielder is closing in on a switch to St James Park this summer.

The journalist reports that Barcelona are currently working on the transfers of young players. These deals include the option to buy them back in future.

Two players at the top of the list are the Fernández. Guille Fernández is currently ‘close to a move to Newcastle’, while Toni is being courted by Bayer Leverkusen. However, there are other teams in the bidding for his signature.

Newcastle United’s interest in the youngster is nothing new either. Sport Witness covered a report in January explaining that Newcastle United were making a significant effort to sign the midfielder.

At the time, the Magpies had made several enquiries about his potential availability. Barcelona were not keen on the deal at that point, but it appears that the situation has now changed. Albert Fernández makes no mention of the figures involved in the current deal. Transfermarkt value the youngster at €3m.

Barcelona youth product

For those that don’t know who Guille Fernández is, he’s a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy.

He’s played for the Catalans at every level, playing for the youth set up, U16s, U18s, and Barça Atlètic sides over the last four years. He’s racked up 68 appearances for those groups over the years but is yet to play competitively in Barcelona’s first team.

He did, though, spend the entirety of pre-season last year working under Hansi Flick. He also travelled on the Asian tour and made his senior debut during that period. His progress was then stopped by an ankle injury in September.

Now he appears to be on the verge of a move to Newcastle, who have revived their previous interest from the January transfer window.
