Inter Milan have received approval from Tottenham Hotspur and Cristian Romero, but still have to overcome an obstacle to complete his signing.
The Argentina international has decided to leave Spurs this summer. The Serie A winners have been working for the past few weeks.
On July 31st, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that the Nerazzurri reached a €40m agreement with Tottenham.
However, they were struggling to agree on personal terms because he’s requesting €8m per year salary.
Tottenham star gives green light
The centre-back is on the front page of today’s Corriere dello Sport and their headline states he ‘says yes’ to the Nerazzurri.
Within the report, the newspaper explains the defender has agreed to a contract until 2031, worth €5.5m per year. This is lower than his reported demand of €8m. Those figures will be after tax.
Cristian Chivu’s side have already reached an agreement with Spurs for €35m plus €5m bonuses.
In short, the Italian champions have ‘verbally sealed a three-way agreement’ to sign the 28-year-old. His entourage are negotiating to sort out the final details of the operation.
Big obstacle for Inter Milan
With all parties in agreement, the San Siro club, in theory, can quickly complete this deal. However, that won’t happen because the reality is different.

Inter Milan have already signed John Stones this summer.
Cristian Chivu has Stones, Alessandro Bastoni, Yann Bisseck, Manuel Akanji and Benjamin Pavard as his five centre-backs.
Pavard isn’t part of the Nerazzurri’s core plans for technical reasons, and he also has a high salary. His exit will help them save €13m gross per year in wages.
Therefore, the Italian club are looking to get rid of the Frenchman, and this will free up space in the squad for Cristian Romero.
Pavarad’s exit is key for them to sign Romero, and Inter Milan have to overcome this obstacle.
