Everton have received encouragement to sign free agent Anthony Martial outside the transfer window.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who covers the latest about Everton and other clubs that are looking at the 30-year-old.
Attacking target for Everton
David Moyes’ side had come close to strengthening their attack with AS Monaco’s Folarin Balogun before the move collapsed on deadline day.
The Toffees have finished the window without a new striker, especially after selling Beto to Fiorentina. That may change soon as the Premier League side can look at free agents.
This is where Anthony Martial comes into the picture. He’s without a club since leaving Mexican side CF Monterrey in July.
Last week, the British media talked about Everton’s interest and Foot Mercato now shares the latest.
Easy route for Everton
The Frenchman had a long spell at Manchester United between 2015 and 2024, managing 90 goals and 54 assists from 317 matches.
He left the Red Devils as a free agent and moved o AEK Athens in 2024. A year later, the Greek club sold him to Monterrey, where he managed a goal and three assists from 799 minutes from 20 matches.
Anthony Martial was earning €3.5m per year in Mexico and his salary has ruled out a few clubs.
Foot Mercato reports two unnamed Ligue 1 side [not OGC Nice and RC Lens] have made approaches. One was a top from the top half of the table and the other fighting to avoid relegation. Their plan was to utilise his experience to help them meet their objectives.
However, Martial has rejected them as their directors couldn’t assure an important role. Another unnamed Champions League club had made an approach before withdrawing the interest.
Everton, for their part, have ‘tested the waters’ to find out whether the free agent is open to returning to the Premier League. He’s training alone, waiting for the ideal project to revive his career.
The Merseyside club have an easy route to sign Martial, provided they can convince him to join them.
