On deadline day, Newcastle United let Nick Woltemade join Juventus a loan, a year after signing him from VfB Stuttgart.
The Magpies invested around €75m in August 2025, weeks after Bayern Munich failed to secure the striker’s services.
Woltemade finished his debut season with 11 goals and five assists from 51 matches and only two goals were from this year.
Bayern unhappy over losing to Newcastle United
The Bundesliga winners were not happy to have lost the 24-year-old to Newcastle United.
In September 2025, Bayern Munich board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge called the Magpies ‘idiots’ for spending €75m on the Germany international.
At that time, he said: “We shouldn’t fulfil every demand to make someone happy, especially the financiers at VfB Stuttgart.
“I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart for finding – I’ll use quotation marks here – an idiot who paid that much money. Because we certainly wouldn’t have done that in Munich!”
CEO says can’t compete with PL sides
Last summer, Bild reported Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was negotiating with Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade while director Max Eberl wasn’t involved.
Fast forward a year later, Dreesen uses this report to deny any power imbalance within the club. He appeared as a guest on Sport1‘s Firockx Doppelpass on Sunday.
“Which is, of course, nonsense. We divided up the tasks. And to make sure the other person is in the loop, you just CC them on the email. That’s completely normal,” he said.
“That was a completely nonsensical discussion about whether someone was copied on an email or not. People made a big deal out of it, and that was really wrong.
“The question is rather: Who has an interest in making something like this public and turning it into a story? That person wants to harm someone. We don’t know who did it.”
The Bayern Munich CEO used Nick Woltemade’s move to Newcastle United in 2025 as an example to explain they can’t compete financially with the Premier League.
“Those are incredible figures. We won’t be able to match them, and we don’t need to,” Dreesen explained.
“First, not to complain. And second: be creative and make the most of our opportunities. We can’t afford to make too many mistakes or spend too much money where we’d be better off not doing so. And ultimately, it’s about cost discipline.”
“We can sign any player we want. We don’t want to afford everyone! That, by the way, is why we didn’t sign Woltemade.”
