Eintracht Frankfurt have been left annoyed with Newcastle United, despite them trying to sign Hugo Ekitike the right way.
That’s at least according to Sport BILD, who explain the bizarre situation and how Frankfurt have ended up irritated with Newcastle because of it.
This week’s edition of the magazine reports Frankfurt were expecting Ekitike to leave this summer and knew there was a long line of suitors for him. Arsenal and Liverpool had already expressed interest but the first club to get serious was Chelsea.
Then there was Saudi Club Al-Hilal, who offered a blank cheque for the deal. They, though, were told no agreement would be done until they had agreed with the player.
This was their basis for any negotiations. Except it seems Newcastle United were unaware and so they suddenly appeared, offering to pay what was required. Nobody had expected them to enter the bidding.
They offered €80m but this irritated Eintracht as they’d made it clear no offers were to be made before an agreement was in place with the striker. Ekitike made it clear that he didn’t want to move to St James Park.
Liverpool then entered the fray, the striker made it clear he wanted the move, and a deal is now close to being done for all parties. Eintracht are seemingly happy with them, and the way they’ve done things, despite it being the wrong way around for everyone else.
