There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Leeds United are to step up in their pursuit for Fenerbahce defender Diego Carlos.

The Brazilian only signed for the Yellow Canaries from Aston Villa during the last transfer window, but his time in Istanbul has been hampered by injury.

Subsequently, Fenerbahce are looking to offload the central defender this summer as they believe his injury issues could be persistent, and Leeds United have emerged as a possible destination.

Fotospor today report on the Premier League side’s continued interest in Carlos and claim they are ‘very serious’ about him.

It’s claimed Leeds United are now expected to make their move for the 32-year-old and will soon submit a formal offer. However, the Elland Road side should expect to face competition to sign Carlos, with Sunderland and Burnley also linked in the past week.

There were reports Burnley would be his preferred transfer over the other two Premier League promoted clubs, but no explanation was given for that.

Since his arrival in Istanbul, Carlos has played just 188 minutes under Jose Mourinho and has missed a total of 15 games. Leeds United would surely want any move to initially be on a loan basis given the player’s fitness issues.
