Newcastle United have to be wary of Barcelona in their chase for Djurgårdens IF’s Bo Hegland.
The attacking midfielder joined Djurgårdens from Norwegian side Moss FK in July 2025 and has starred this year.
He has eight goals and 15 assists 21 league matches this season. He contributed his 15th assist in his side’s 2-0 win over Gais on Monday and equalled the Allsvenskan record for most assists in a single season. His displays have caught Newcastle United’s attention.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered a report from Sweden explaining that Newcastle United scouted the 22-year-old in their 4-0 win over Mjällby AIF. He impressed the English club’s official, contributing two assists.
On September 5th, the Norwegian said he’s happy that the Magpies are monitoring him. On Wednesday, the Tyneside club’s target reiterated his desire to finish this year with the Swedish club. He hasn’t closed the door on leaving them in January.
He said: “You know that it’s a short way out, but there has been full focus on Djurgårdens this summer and that feels good.”
Barcelona join Newcastle United

The player’s impressive performances have seen other clubs take notice. Barcelona had their scout watch him live against Gais on Monday.

Barca have looked at the Scandinavian markets in recent years. They lost Lucas Bergvall to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024 and signed Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen last summer.
The Catalan club could challenge Newcastle United in the race for the Djurgårdens IF star, probably in the winter market.
Contract, value and agent info
Bo Hegland has a contract until December 2029 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €2.5m. It was €800k last November and his impressive performances have resulted in a massive jump.
Djurgårdens IF are likely to demand a higher figure if they were to sell him next January, especially if more clubs join the transfer race.
Norwegian agency Tempo Sports Group, owned by Mikail Adampour, manages the player.
