Celta Vigo president Marián Mouriño has left the door open for Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder Fer López.

On Monday, Mouriño was speaking at a shareholders meeting. After that, she had a chat with the local media and AS have relayed her comments.

The La Liga side sold the 21-year-old to Wolves in June, but hasn’t had an impact so far.

Wolves have been going through a disastrous run, which won’t have helped. They replaced Vítor Pereira with Rob Edwards in November.

Last Wednesday, AS suggested Edwards isn’t a fan of López. It was also stated the youngster could return to Celta Vigo in the winter market. Later that day, Faro de Vigo reported his agent, Jorge Mendes, remains key for the potential loan.

Celta Vigo sporting director Marco Garcés said it’s not easy to bring their former player back to the club in January. Their manager, Claudio Giráldez, then said he’ll be delighted if the Wolves man were to return.

Wolves transfer dependent on Celta Vigo exit

Mouriño becomes the latest Celta Vigo official to talk about the Spain U21 international.

“I’ve always said this regarding Gabri Veiga, López, Miguel Rodríguez… anyone who wants to return, and if the circumstances allow it,” he said.

“Here, we’ll always welcome back our youth academy players, just like we welcomed Iago Aspas back in the day. Hopefully, we’ll have many stories like that, and Fer can return someday.

“The situation isn’t in our hands; he’s not ours, he belongs to another club. It’ll be his decision, those of his club and those of his agents that may or may not open any possibilities.”

Celta Vigo have to make room in their squad for López if Wolves open the exit door.

“In any case, we have to remember that there are no available spots. If there are no departures, there are no arrivals. It’s a pretty complicated market because we don’t have any spots. From there, we’ll see what happens,” Mouriño explained.
