Aston Villa are stepping up to sign Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez’s in the last week of the summer window.
On Monday, Sport Witness covered a report from Belgium explaining that Aston Villa and the centre-back have agreed on personal terms.
The Premier League side are in negotiations with Club Brugge to secure his services. The operation has entered the decisive phase, with only an agreement between the clubs now missing.
Gazet van Antwerpen, who covered this report, didn’t clarify whether the negotiations are for a permanent transfer or loan move.
There was also no mention of a fee. The Belgian club, who initially wanted €40m, have to settle for less because of his injury. Ordóñez suffered a setback while at the World Cup with Ecuador and is still away from the pitch.
Aston Villa want to wrap up signing
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the latest on the Europa League winners’ ongoing pursuit.
He reports Aston Villa ’emissaries are coming to Club Brugge’, meaning they will travel to Belgium to hold talks for the 22-year-old.
The Jupiler Pro League side are expecting to welcome the Villans in the ‘coming hours’ and this is to finalise the Ecuador international’s transfer.
Details of Aston Villa’s operation
Unai Emery’s side want to sign the defender on loan with a conditional obligation to buy at around €30m. He has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt now value him at €33m.
The talks between the two clubs are ongoing for the same formula. Sacha Tavolieri states the key issue lies with the condition[s] for the Premier League side to buy Joel Ordóñez.
Aston Villa’s latest trip is to resolve this so that the Ecuadorian, who has already agreed personal terms, can move to Villa Park.
