Grassrunners FC’s Abdoulaye Agbejoye has now emerged as a new Nottingham Forest target late in the summer window.
At the weekend, Sport Witness relayed news of the Premier League side tabling a £70m [€81.7m] bid for Brentford’s Igor Thiago.
As well the Brazilian, Nottingham Forest are looking at the 18-year-old this summer.
Nottingham Forest face battle
That’s according to Footy-Africa, who cover his development and the Reds interest.
The 6ft 5in striker’s performances have seen him compared to Manchester City star Erling Haaland. His impressive displays at the Nigerian Youth Cup caught the attention of European clubs.
Abdoulaye Agbejoye had managed 19 goals and an assist from 20 matches. Nottingham Forest see him as a player for the long-term and have held talks over a potential move. It’s unclear whether the Reds held talks with his camp, Grassrunners FC or both.
The City Ground club will face competition from Bayer Leverkusen, while unnamed clubs from both Sweden and France have also made contact.
Among these clubs, Oliver Glasner’s side are leading the race to sign him, without the report providing any further clarification.
Youngster very close to securing move
A source close to Grassrunners informed the outlet that his move to Europe is ‘imminent’.
The source said: ‘We have another top forward in the shape of the late, great Rashidi Yekini. I still call him King Yekini because ever since he passed away, there has been a massive vacuum in Nigerian football. But with his playing style, I believe we will soon have a proper replacement for him in the national team.
‘Hopefully, he will be heading abroad very soon. He is performing exceptionally well and is actively being monitored. Now that he has earned a call up to the national team, things should move even faster. I cannot disclose the specific clubs just yet. Sometimes it is best to keep details under wraps until the deal is fully finalised.’
