Valencia will listen to offers for Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers target Goncalo Guedes starting at €35m this summer.
That is the official line according to Plaza Deportiva, although there is a feeling that €25m can convince the Spanish side to do a deal.
Plaza explain that Valencia’s management with Anil Murthy and Miguel Ángel Corona and coach José Bordalás have determined they are willing to sell Guedes, but it must be for a price ‘that cannot be refused’.
Bordalás considers him a key player and would like to have him next season but knows, in reality, the player’s future in the hands of the transfer window.
Guedes is the most expensive signing in Valencia’s history, and a large portion of that remains to be amortised. That means that they need a ‘large sum’ to let him go so that they can balance the books.
Their idea is to get between €35-40m for the forward, a figure which makes the Premier League his most likely destination.
This is where Everton and Wolves come into the picture, and they are one of several sides who have him on their ‘wish list’.
Despite the official version being that high, the feeling among ‘football people’ around Valencia is that an offer of more than €25m could be enough to convince Meriton to let Guedes leave Valencia.
They are telling agents that they are going to make signings this summer, but the priority is departures, and Guedes heads up the list.
It is therefore up to Everton and Wolves to test the waters with a bid and see if Valencia will stick to the high valuation they are sharing around publicly.
