When Chelsea announced that they had parted ways with Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning, it was met with some surprise.

After all, the Blues had heavily spent over the summer to build a competitive squad following many exits, and it appears the German had been given the tools he wanted to try and succeed.

However, early results didn’t go to plan, and the loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League appeared to be the final straw for Todd Boehly, even if many believe the decision was taken prior.

Either way, the relationship between manager and owner was already fraught, and Tuchel’s refusal to have Cristiano Ronaldo in his side is partly behind his Chelsea exit.

That’s what Bild journalist Christian Falk claims on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that ‘the fact that Thomas Tuchel resisted buying Cristiano Ronaldo was one reason’ for the bad relationship with Todd Boehly.

Chelsea’s new American owner was said to want the Portuguese star at Stamford Bridge, which was widely reported at the time, but the German manager stood firm.

In fact, Falk has him as saying: “He will destroy the spirit in my dressing room.”

Carrying on, Falk reveals a bit more, claiming that Tuchel was ‘totally surprised and shocked’ at the decision to get rid of him, with Boehly allegedly telling him: “We want to make a new start.”
