There’s no denying that Tottenham, even with or without Antonio Conte at the club, will want to strengthen their squad this summer.
This means finding an alternative to Harry Kane should anything happen to the player going forward, like an injury, or a direct replacement if he were to be sold.
The name that makes the most sense should Conte stay is Lautaro Martinez, who has worked with the Argentine in the past and whom Fabio Paratici already tried to sign for Tottenham last summer.
Either way, Spurs have continued to be linked, especially since Inter are expected to need some money from sales this summer, and the belief is the striker could be the expendable, with Paulo Dybala taking his place on a free going forward.
That’s the line La Repubblica are pushing on Thursday, explaining that both Atlético Madrid and Tottenham are ‘in the running’ to sign Martinez this summer, with his departure and the arrival of his compatriot from Juventus ‘likely’.
We’ll have to wait and see how this develops, but the belief has been that an offer of around €70m or so could be enough to get Inter to sit down for the Argentina international, who has 20 goals to his name this season in all competitions.
That’s less than last year, when Spurs reportedly saw a €95m bid turned away.
