Lechia Gdańsk’s Mateusz Żukowski is ‘close’ to joining Rangers late in the winter market, according to Meczyki.

The 20-year-old’s current deal with the Polish club will run down at the end of the season and he’s attracted interest from teams from the same league and clubs from abroad.

He has decided to make a switch to Ibrox, as it’s claimed the right-back ‘will go to Rangers in January’.

The Scottish Premiership champions sold Nathan Patterson to Everton earlier this month and Żukowski will take his place in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad. The Poland U21 international will act as a backup to James Tavernier.

Rangers interest in the fullback is also reported by Interia Sport and they state Żukowski ‘flew’ to Scotland on Saturday, to carry out the medical tests, to join Van Bronckhorst’s side.

There are a ‘few procedural issues to be finalised’ before the deal to take the defender to Rangers is sealed. If Żukowski were to clear his medical and the ‘procedural issues’ are sorted out, then the Pole will complete his signing.

Neither of the two websites have mentioned the fee Lechia Gdańsk will receive from Żukowski’s sale to Rangers.
