If Gianluca Scamacca thought it would be an instant return to happiness in Italy after leaving West Ham this summer, it appears that he was mistaken.

That’s at least according to Tuttomercatoweb, who report the striker is facing ‘at least three weeks’ away from the pitch with a thigh injury.

Scamacca returned to Italy with Atalanta this summer from West Ham after a mixed year at the London Stadium following a big money move last summer.

He had arrived at West Ham to be their star striker but proved to be anything but, failing to impress David Moyes with just eight goals in 27 games in a disappointing campaign for him personally.

The forward eventually got his return to Italy, where he had shined with Sassuolo, and has started the season in decent form with two goals in four games in Serie A so far.

He’ll now have to wait to add to that amount, though, with TMW reporting that the former West Ham man has suffered a first-grade muscle-fascial lesion of the seed muscle in his left thigh.

Having picked up the injury in the clash against Fiorentina, he’s now set to spend ‘at least three weeks’ on the treatment table, which means he will miss the start of the Italian’s European campaign this week.

The plan is to re-evaluate him over the next few days, but he faces the misery of a few weeks out and a minor interruption to his efforts to get things back on track.
