On Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo reported Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández is keen to sign the Manchester City duo of Bernando Silva and João Cancelo. It was also stated the latter is the coach’s ‘priority’ target for the right-back position.

The defender has returned to the Etihad after spending the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich. The La Liga side tried to sign him before he moved to Germany in January.

Barca will make another attempt to secure the Manchester City player’s services, according to Record in Portugal.

Their title says the Blaugrana are ‘getting closer’ to closing a deal for 29-year-old. Within the report, it’s explained that Barca are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Pep Guardiola’s side to sign Cancelo, who can operate on both sides of the defence.

That’s about the only information mentioned by Record, without providing any clarity on whether the Catalan club are in ‘advanced talks’ with Manchester City for a loan deal or a permanent transfer. The player’s contract lasts until 2027.

Either way, Xavi has requested the Spanish giants sign a new right-back and they are now getting closer to signing Cancelo, who has been the manager’s priority target.
