When Nottingham Forest were looking to add another left-back to their squad this summer, Real Betis player Alex Moreno publicly turned down the move to the Premier League side.

Following reports about the Reds’ efforts to sign the 29-year-old, he went to social media to insist he chose to stay at the La Liga club for another year.

This subject is still being covered by the Spanish media, with Estadio Deportivo today pointing out that Moreno had ‘one foot and a half at Nottingham Forest’ until turning down the move.

The outlet points out that with his departure, Betis would only gain around €1m in their salary limit, which means they’d hardly find a player of his quality to replace him. This means they’d only be able to have added another player on a maximum of a €1m salary to their squad.

That’s something backed up by club president Angel Haro in a press conference with the local media today.

“I don’t regret that he didn’t leave. It was a low offer. The limit he opened up for us was minuscule, one million euros. It seemed good to me that he will stay. I’m delighted to have him with us.”

At the time Nottingham Forest were said to be close to signing Moreno, the Spanish media claimed he’d move for a €10.5m fee, with another €4.5m in bonuses. They were pretty confident the move would happen until the player decided to stay.
