Leeds United are locked in talks with Valencia over a move for striker Rodrigo, with both clubs keen to get a deal over the line.

Earlier today we covered reports from AS and Marca that stated that Leeds chiefs Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta were in Valencia today to discuss the move, with the former meeting with Anil Murthy today.

The sentiment from both newspapers was that they were pushing to get a deal done as soon as possible and Super Deporte say the same in their coverage of the potential deal.

They also report that Leeds are meeting with Valencia today over the 29-year-old after Marcelo Bielsa made him the ‘chosen one’ to reinforce their attack.

Negotiations are underway over a deal, but the two parties are currently apart in their valuation of the forward.

Peter Lim initially set a €50m asking price on the forward but was aware that he would have to move downwards from that standpoint.

Leeds offered €25-30m but, despite being in desperate need of money, Lim does not want to sanction a sale at that price.

He wants significantly more, and Super stat that the ‘negotiation is progressing’ and ‘everything indicates’ that an agreement can be reached at around €40m. In fact, they say it may just be ‘a matter of hours’.

That is the ‘base figure’ that Valencia would find acceptable, but it could also include ‘bonuses for objectives’, such as staying in the Premier League this season.

These are the differences that the two clubs need to work out but ‘there is a will’ to find a solution and a key point is that both have a ‘certain urgency’ to work it out.

Leeds, in particular, want to get a deal over the line as soon as possible as Marcelo Bielsa wants to have Rodrigo in his squad as soon as possible so that he can start the season in prime condition.

The good news is that Rodrigo is open to the move. Super explain that previously he wanted to make a step up should he leave Valencia but has now changed that stance.

He’s happy to move if ‘the economic offer convinces him’ and he is in position to say yes to the move as soon as the two clubs negotiate a fee.

The newspaper does say that is dependent on a bigger club not appearing on the scene at the last minute to turn his head.

Indeed, his father is already in talks with Leeds to work out what his contract would look like at Elland Road, suggesting this deal is moving as quickly as everyone says it is.
