Despite the numerous articles linking Manchester United with strikers, no concrete move has been made for one from Erik ten Hag’s side.

The latest to be added to the list of Victor Osimhens and Harry Kanes is Lautaro Martínez, whom the Red Devils have always seemed to have a soft spot for.

Gazzetta dello Sport bring the news on Wednesday that an intermediary came forward to ‘probe’ Inter Milan about the Argentine, only to be met with a firm refusal.

Said envoy ‘brought the concrete interest’ from Manchester United and another Premier League side in a meeting after the Champions League quarter finals against Benfica, but the Serie A club ‘didn’t even sit down at the table’.

Figures were not discussed, because ‘it never works like that in negotiations’, as big clubs will always test the waters first, and will only make a serious move if they feel there is the ‘slightest opening’ from the other party.

Inter didn’t even blink, though, and despite him being worth ‘at least €80m’, they have no intention of selling him, seeing him as ‘the player around whom to build the next sports project’.

Therefore, Manchester United’s advances were ‘nipped in the bud’, as they try and ‘play at two tables’, because they ‘can’t be sure of getting’ their other top target, a certain man named Harry Kane.

That’s why they are ‘keeping the alternative track alive’, with that being Lautaro Martínez.

This, however, doesn’t appear to have worked, meaning they’ll have to look elsewhere.
