Everton striker Salomon Rondon has insisted he has no intention of retiring from the international set-up just yet as he eyes a place at the World Cup this winter.
Rondon has currently linked up with Venezuela for this international break, with them set to face Argentina and Colombia in the latest round of qualifying for the Qatar World Cup.
The Everton will be hoping to continue the fine form he’s been enjoying on the international stage since returning at the end of January when he scored a hattrick in the 4-1 win over Bolivia.
He’s been a part of the international set-up since 2008, having made his debut at the age of 18 and not looked back.
He currently sits on 85 appearances in total, with 34 goals and three assists to his name, the former figure making him the highest goalscorer in his country’s history.
At 32-years-old, he will have to start thinking more carefully about his international future, particularly with game time at Everton currently hard to come by.
“I’m not thinking about leaving. I feel I have the hunger and desire to continue competing, to play everything,” Ovacion report him saying.
“I feel that I’m still doing things well, and that’s what I’ve always been taught since I was a child. And I’m hungry for anything. As long as I feel hungry, I’m going to keep competing.
“I don’t see myself at that point yet. Injuries have respected me well, and I hope to get to the next World Cup competing in the best way.
“I always want to play as many games as possible with the national team. If I can reach 100, I’d be more than blessed. But I feel good and at ease with what my career has been like. I hope to continue to be there and get more minutes and goals.”
