In the past few days, some in the Dutch media have started wondering how much longer will Erik ten Hag will last as Manchester United manager.

The manager’s recent results in charge of the Red Devils have clearly not been great, and there are those asking whether he could return to Ajax anytime soon.

That scenario has now been discussed in the Kick-Off podcast. In quotes relayed by Soccer News, Dutch pundits pointed out he could soon leave Old Trafford.

It all started with Valentijn Driessen pointing out that Manchester United are “a club that doesn’t shy away from sending trainers packing, though, so he has to perform quickly”.

Mike Verweij then pointed out that Ajax manager Maurice Steijn may be worried about the situation: “I do think Steijn is hoping Ten Hag will hold out for a while longer.”

Pim Sedee then asked if Ten Hag would return to the Amsterdam club, and Verweij said that would be possible.

“It couldn’t be much worse, so I think if he is sacked he will become a candidate again in time. There are shouts on the internet, which is a very small bubble, for Steijn’s sacking. But those people are not coming up with an alternative. Imagine throwing Steijn out after a defeat against AZ or maybe a defeat against AZ and FC Utrecht, I wouldn’t know who should do it.”

Erik ten Hag may have had a promising first season in charge of Manchester United, but things have gone disastrous for the Red Devils, who stand 10th in the Premier League and bottom of their group in the Champions League. Even though there haven’t been strong rumours about his dismissal, this isn’t a crazy scenario to start thinking of and is keeping the Dutch media intrigued.
