This summer saw Kallum Cesay leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of his contract with the club, with the club releasing him.

The 21-year-old is a product of Spurs’ academy, but it was thought there was no route through for him at Tottenham and therefore the club decided to part ways.

Cesay was then spotted training at Werder Bremen, going through a trial period which seemed to be going well, and the German club today released a statement about his future.

On their official website, the Bundesliga side claim that despite training with them, Cesay will not sign a contract.

Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder Bremen, explained their decision not to sign him.

“Kallum did a good job and also presented himself well off the pitch, but he is still a long way from the Bundesliga. Using him primarily in the U23 would not have made sense for us,” said the club chief.

Cesay was born in London, but has Sierra Leonean heritage and even has four caps for their national team, even though he was not called up for the Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches this year.

It’s not clear what the youngster will try to do next with his career, although his past at Tottenham’s academy should certainly help him get a trial at other clubs.

Onwards and upwards Cesay!
